
The TPN Medical Governance Council – East Africa
In recognition of the growing governance needs of the network, TPN pathologists recently established the TPN Medical Governance Council (TMGC) as a first-in-class semi-autonomous body to internally govern and standardise pathology practice within TPN in East Africa.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish guidelines for standardised pathology practice.
- Assess applications from new pathologists.
- Oversee the standards of partner laboratories.
- Review applications from new laboratories.
- Monitor and maintain quality across the network.
- Establish internal guidelines for responsible use of AI and other new technologies.

Meet the Chair: Dr Leah Obosy
We are proud to announce that Dr. Leah Obosy, a respected consultant pathologist, has been appointed as the inaugural Chair of TMGC.
With over five years at TPN, she brings extensive expertise in histopathology, haematology, forensic medicine and medical administration, making her uniquely positioned to lead this initiative.
As Head of Pathology at Kisii Teaching & Referral Hospital and Chair of Pathology at Kisii University, she is deeply committed to ensuring uniformity, reproducibility, and excellence in diagnostic reporting across the region.
Dr. Obosy also plays a key role in training and quality assurance, with specialised expertise in, bone marrow aspiration, trephine
biopsies and fine needle aspiration.
Her leadership in TMGC is a major step forward for pathology governance that will benefit laboratories, clinicians, and—most importantly—patients.
