The Olive Hill Story
Nyeri County is known for many reasons: its world-class coffee and tea, the famous Aberdares Ranges, and for being the birthplace of the late Nobel Peace Prize winner, Wangari Maathai. It is also home to Olive Hill Surgical—a state-of-the-art Level 3 facility, quietly transforming patient care in the region.
Founded in 2020 by, among others, general consultant and urologic surgeon Dr. Patrick Mbuthia, the clinic has become a trusted centre for surgical services across Nyeri and the Mount Kenya region.
Olive Hill Joins the Pathology Network
In 2023, Olive Hill Surgical joined The Pathology Network community to access quality and reliable pathology services. The Pathology Network provided exactly that through ALIS, a digital diagnostics platform that laid the groundwork for what is now Spes360 (Learn more about Spes360—Africa’s first digital diagnostic grid).
This partnership provided exactly what the facility’s administrators had hoped for. The results? Enhanced patient care, expert collaboration, operational efficiency and cost predictability.
Reflecting on his experience, Dr. Mbuthia shared:
“Partnering with The Pathology Network has provided us with access to reliable pathology services and turnaround times. I am quite happy with the TAT. You have a reliable pathology service, and our patients don’t have to wait. I think the pricing is reasonable, but the most important thing is the predictability. Our staff are pretty happy with The Pathology Network too. There have been many cases we’ve discussed with pathologists in the network, and that has made a difference.”
